Vittorio Matino – And colour bursts into flame

Vittorio Matino (1943-2022), originally from Apulia but trained in Veneto, he has developed his poetry around a core element: the colour. After spending the Sixties assimilating the irradiation of colour-light, typical of the Venetian pictorial tradition, he moves to Milan in 1971, with long stays in Paris, traveling to Europe and the United States to deepen his knowledge of the masters of European and American modernity. The artist also spent long time in Puglia, so as to rediscover his roots, to the point of nominate Otranto as his summer residence.

For twenty years, until the summer of 1993, Matino participated actively in the political and cultural life of Otranto, contributing incisively to the defence of the territory and the protection of its heritage. The artist has about a hundred solo exhibitions to his credit and a wide range of group exhibitions in Europe and North America, displayed in art galleries, museums and public spaces. His works are located in the major Italian museums and in private collections, such as Fondazione Prada, Museo del Novecento and Gallerie d’Italia in Milan and Mart of Rovereto.
