Following the success of the first meeting, on Saturday 12 April 2025, at 5.30 p.m. Lorenzo Madaro, lecturer in Contemporary Art History at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan and member of the Scientific Committee of the Foundation, will return in Fondazione Biscozzi | Rimbaud ETS in Lecce, to accompany visitors to discover the works of the permanent collection and the exhibition he cured Sandro Chia. The two painters. Works on paper 1989-2017 ongoing until 15 June 2025.
The permanent collection of the Foundation documents an important part of the art of the twentieth century and includes significant works by great Italian and international names: Josef Albers, Filippo de Pisis, Arturo Martini, Alberto Magnelli and Enrico Prampolini, with special reference to the period 1950-1970: Kengiro Azuma, Agostino Bonalumi, Renato Birolli, Alberto Burri, Pietro Consagra, Dadamaino, Piero Dorazio, Fausto Melotti, Tancredi Parmeggiani, Angelo Savelli, Emilio Scanavino, Mario Schifano, Luigi Veronesi and many others; there are also some valiant artists from Salento and from Lecce, such as Michele Guido, Salvatore Esposito, Vittorio Matino e Salvatore Sava.
The route of the permanent exhibition is divided chronologically and by stylistic-formal types: from the “origins of contemporary” to the section on the Informal Art in Italy and in Europe, to then move on to the abstract-geometric current and the kinetic-programmed current, to the analytical painting and, lastly to the researches that go beyond the traditional statutes of the painting and of the sculpture.
The exhibition Sandro Chia. The two painters. Works on paper 1989-2017 offers a systematic reconnaissance of the work on paper of Sandro Chia (Florence, 1946), one of the founders of Transavanguardia, the current theorised at the end of the Seventies by the critic Achille Bonito Oliva, with one hundred of works exhibited. The exhibition aims to be a real journey in Chia’s personal archive of images that have made him a Master of art. His imaginary universe is dense with references to art history, but also with ironic and mocking visions, oscillations among bodies, symbols and allegories of art and life. The exposition is mounted in collaboration with Galleria Mazzoli, Modena.
